NATIONAL SUMBOLS OF UNITED KINGDOM

THE ROYAL COAT OF ARMS In THE ROYAL COAT OF ARMS three lions symbolize England, a lion rampant Scotland and a harp-Ireland. The whole is encircled with the Gaster and is supported by a lion and a unicorn. The lion has been used as a symbol of nationals strength and of the British monarchy for many centuries. The unicorn, a mythical animal that looks like a horse with a long straight horn, has appeared on the Scottish and British royal coats of arms for many centuries, and is a symbol of purity.

The Flag About history 1606 year – the new flag is ratified: on the Scottish flag of Saint Andrey (White cross buck on a blue background) was imposed the English flag of Saint George  (Red cross on a white background).  1634 year- it was prescribed to use this flag only to the military ship as a jack (Jacks in English nasal flag of military ship, now his everyday name “of Union Jack").  1707 year – the Kingdom of Great Britain was formed; Union Jack became a state flag.  1801 year - the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was formed. The symbol of Ireland - cross of Saint Patrick was added to the British flag.
